Sad news from Pakistan

I just learned that Benazir Bhutto has been killed at an election rally in Pakistan. This probably makes the previously restless region even more unstable.

Benazir, roughly meaning “unique” lived up to her name. She was the first female leader of a post-colonial muslim country. She spent many years in exile due to allegations of corruption, but for me she always seemed like someone that really tried to change things to the better.

I hope the majority of people working for peaceful and democratic development in Pakistan overcome this sad act of violence and that everything still take a turn for peace and stability in the region.
