This is the 100th post in my blog. Tadaa.
Since I’ve been having bad consciousness about not writing enough about cycling, this update is about how it is going for the Finns in the professional cycling circuit.
Kjell Carlström drove a good TDF, providing good support for Pozzato and Fisher in the sprint stages. He has also signed a new two year contract with Liquigas.
Jussi Veikkanen is trying to get some good result, since his contract with FdJ ends after this season. He drove a good Giro and spring, so I think he’ll stay in the Pro Tour.
Matti Helminen, has done a good season in DFL Cyclingnews. He is by far our best time trial rider at the moment.
Jukka Vastaranta had a promising start to the season, but the end of the spring and the summer has been a constant fight against health problems. His contract with Jartazi was terminated in July. You can read about his progress in Finnish in his blog http://vastaranta.typepad.com/. Tsemppiä, Jukka!
Pia Sundstedt is of course doing XC marathons nowadays, so she is not strictly speaking a Finn in the peloton. Still, she has been dominating in the XC worldcup, so she deserves a mention here.
One who most certainly isn’t a Finn in the peloton is me myself. Just to keep up to the egocentric habit of always writing about myself in my blog, I can mention that I’m trying to somehow get 5000 km on cycle also this year. It mostly depends of when the winter comes. Last year got 7200 km, so this is a much lazier year (and then 2007 has been so much more filled with travel, friends and wooork than the year before).
